The quick answer for Louisiana: LA GATOR awards run from $5,243 to $15,253, but the Legislature has funded far fewer seats than families requested in both 2025-26 and 2026-27, and a child cannot be in LA GATOR and a registered home study program at once. PE and play equipment are not addressed in its rules. The Children's Choice Waiver (birth through 20, $20,650 yearly cap) lists sensory integration as a therapy service, but its manual excludes "exercise equipment" and "recreation equipment (swing set, etc.)" from Specialized Medical Equipment and Supplies. LA GATOR Scholarship
Nothing in the LA GATOR rules names PE or play equipment, new awards have been scarce in both funded years, and the program cannot be combined with registered home study. Treat a play gym as not established as eligible, and do not plan a purchase around an award you do not yet hold.

Children's Choice Waiver
The waiver manual excludes exercise equipment and recreation equipment such as swing sets from Specialized Medical Equipment and Supplies, so a request for a play gym is unlikely to pass. Sensory integration is covered as a therapy service from an enrolled provider. If your child's therapist believes specific equipment is medically necessary, ask your support coordinator how that request would be reviewed. Approval is decided case by case in your child's individual service plan, usually with an OT or PT recommendation attached, and most waivers pay only after regular Medicaid or private insurance has said no. No state approves play equipment automatically.

🧩 A budget does not have to cover the whole build
Every Brainrich gym is modular. A Model T3 that fits this year's budget becomes a Spider V3 the day you add the Monkey Bars, and each add-on is its own purchase with its own invoice. Families fund the frame from one budget cycle and the expansion from a later one, out of pocket, or as a gift. That means matching real purchases to real budget cycles. It never means splitting a single purchase to slip under a review threshold, which programs treat as a red flag.
