The approved expense list has no PE, exercise, or playground category, there is no reimbursement route, and purchases must come from approved providers. The statute allows other expenses the department approves, but it has not published play equipment as approved. Plan on a different lane.
Case by case
ID/RD and Community Supports Waivers
Ask your case manager about "Specialized Medical Equipment, Supplies and Assistive Technology" (ID/RD) or "Assistive Technology and Appliances" (Community Supports). Items must show a direct medical or remedial benefit. Approval is decided case by case in your child's individual service plan, usually with an OT or PT recommendation attached, and most waivers pay only after regular Medicaid or private insurance has said no. No state approves play equipment automatically. Ask for a waiver slot in writing, since the list is no longer automatic.

🧩 A budget does not have to cover the whole build
