Mississippi Funding Guide: ESA, Medicaid Waivers, and Homeschool Funding

Mississippi runs a small education scholarship account for students with IEPs, reauthorized through 2028, and it is a private school program: the parent agreement bars filing a home instruction certificate, and its allowable uses contain no equipment category. The ID/DD Waiver's only supply category is incontinence supplies for adults, so children rely on Katie Beckett Medicaid.
The quick answer for Mississippi: Mississippi's Education Scholarship Account for students with special needs (IEP required, reauthorized by 2024 HB 1229 through July 1, 2028, 500 new students a year) reimburses curriculum and licensed therapies quarterly, but excludes homeschoolers and lists no PE or equipment category. Can this fund a Brainrich gym in Mississippi?

The waiver's supply category is adults-only incontinence supplies, so there is no waiver equipment lane for a child. Katie Beckett gives a child Medicaid, and any equipment is then judged as durable medical equipment on medical necessity, a hard fit for play equipment. Approval is decided case by case in your child's individual service plan, usually with an OT or PT recommendation attached, and most waivers pay only after regular Medicaid or private insurance has said no. No state approves play equipment automatically.
